|AMD Joins Leading Businesses to Protect Climate|
"AMD is proud to join corporate leaders publically recognizing that a low carbon economy is good for the planet, good for business, and good for all humankind. For 20 years AMD has established climate protection goals for our operations and exceeded these same goals. Today we are extending our climate protection programs to encompass our supply chain and the energy efficiency of our products," said
In 2015, AMD reached several sustainability milestones. The company announced successful completion of five year environmental goals (2009-2014), achieving 24 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from non-manufacturing sites, 31 percent reduction in global energy use since 2009 and 32 percent reduction in transportation emissions.
AMD also announced that it is ahead of the trend line to reach its ambitious 25x20 goal announced in 2014, which is to improve the typical use energy efficiency of its mobile Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) 25 fold by 2020. Upgrading to AMD's 6th Generation A-Series APU can result in a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions compared to the previous generation.
In 2014, AMD and its silicon wafer suppliers partnered to establish climate goals to outperform the annual US semiconductor industry average greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30 percent.
